The entire Bentley community is mourning the loss of David LeClair ’11, who recently passed away in a tragic biking accident. A memorial service to honor and celebrate David’s life will be held on campus on Wednesday, June 19, at 4:00 p.m. in the Executive Dining Room of the LaCava Center.

High school students from across the U.S. will gather at Bentley for high-level competition as they analyze an MBA-level graduate school business case and present recommendations before panels of senior corporate executives and business school faculty.

Little feet pushed Bentley undergraduate students to take big steps as they prepared marketing strategies for Converse Kids’ $125M business. Recommendations were presented directly to the footwear company’s Product Creation Team using iBook.

English professor Gesa Kirsch was accepted to the National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Institute “Transcendentalism and Social Action in the Age of Emerson, Thoreau, and Fuller,” July 7 to 20 in Concord, Mass.

It is with great sadness that I am writing to inform you about the death of a member of our community. Joseph (Joey) Glynn, who just completed his freshman year and was a member of our basketball team, collapsed Monday evening while playing basketball during an Amateur Athletic Union men’s game (a recreational league) in Watertown, Mass. He died later that night at Mount Auburn Hospital.

For nearly two decades, Bill VanderClock, lecturer in computer information systems, has incorporated service-learning into his courses, sponsoring nearly 1,000 students in community-based work through embedded and fourth-credit course projects. His efforts were recently recognized with the Bentley Service-Learning Center Distinguished Faculty Award.

A team of Bentley students placed second in the 2012-2013 Association for Information Systems National Student Competition. A total of 82 teams from 17 universities around the country participated in the four tracks of the competition.

Issues surrounding sustainable malaria interventions in Africa were on the agenda May 20 as Bentley hosted the African Malaria Dialogues group for a workshop of scholars from Bentley, MIT, Boston University, Harvard, Yale, Columbia and industry and NGO representatives.

Once again this year, tens of thousands of students around the globe will be signing the Graduation Pledge of Social and Environmental Responsibility. Even in the face of our current economic challenges, these students are committing to consider how their work will impact our world.

In the current national debate over the value of higher education, lines are often drawn between business education and the liberal arts. Some argue that business knowledge provides the most appropriate education for today’s world; others take just the opposite approach, elevating arts and sciences as creating supple learners who can thrive in a changing environment.

Bentley Dean of Arts and Sciences Daniel L. Everett takes exception to each mindset. Everett’s beliefs are so strong that he published a book about it.
